How To Take Care of Your Salt Lamp:
First of all, we highly recommend that you keep your Himalayan Rock Crystal Salt Lamp turned on all the time --- why? Because the gentle warming produced by the electric lightbulb helps to promote the production of negative ionization and also keeps the lamp slightly warm so it will not sweat from condensation.
Salt Lamps are intended for indoor use only. Salt naturally has 'hygroscopic' properties, meaning it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. Yes, salt lamps can sweat, especially in humid areas or during times of high humidity.
If you are not going to be using your lamp for a time period, say, if you are going on vacation, first remove the elelctric cord and bulb from the base of the lamp and place the salt lamp in a sealed plastic bag so it will not be effected by humidity in the air and form moisture. Your lamp will not be harmed by this moisture as much as it can cause damage to the area around it by sweating.
Cleaning your salt lamp is easy. First turn it off, then simply use a damp cloth or sponge to gently wipe it down. Turn the lamp back on and it will dry nicely.
If by chance your lamp does get wet, please remove the the electric cord from inside the lamp and place the lamp in a low oven for about 15 - 20 minutes at approximately 200 degrees. This will safely dry the lamp. Do not 'bake' the lamp at a higher temperature for a shorter time or you may jeopardize the stability of the salt.
You may also simply dry the lamp, inside and out with a cotton towel to remove any moisture, then, turn it on - it will dry naturally.
You may notice that household pets are attracted to your Salt Lamp ... particularly dogs ... who might lick the lamp to replenish minerals in the body. Your Salt Lamp is a natural product, and while not intended for consumption, will not harm your pet if they lick it. This is a 100% natural salt product and is not hazardous to health. Just move the lamp away from their reach to solve the problem.
Salt Tea Light Holders - treat the same way as an electric lamps but use caution with the fire element of candles. Salt Tea Light holders are very safe and stable as they are, but, you must add tea light candles to them to get the best benefit of the negative ions. As such, please supervise the lit candles and do not place the lit lamp anywhere where the flame might touch flammable materials, as with any live candle.
Tea Light Holders are also subject to humidity and moisture the same as the Salt Lamps, and can be cleaned and dried the same way.
